If you would describe Memoto with two sentences, what is it?

Memoto is a wearable, automatic camera with a GPS and a smartphone app that makes your life searchable and shareable. The Memoto camera captures a photo every 30 seconds and the Memoto app helps you organize and make sense of all of your photos.

Who do you think is interested in using this service?

We think that there will be two main types of users: collectors and communicators. Collectors are those people who are interested in preserving their memories and communicators are those who are interested in sharing their lives with others. And, of course, there will be people who fall somewhere in between these two.

How do you plan on integrity issue with regard to constantly take pictures (eg on your run and where people are photographed without asking them?)

As with many things, the user has extensive rights as well as extensive responsibilities. The photographs taken by your Memoto camera are yours and you decide what to do with them. If someone asks you not to take photos, you should respect their wishes and put the camera away, or if you have reason to believe a photo is inappropriate, don’t share it.

On May 28, we can see the documentary Lifeloggers that provides different perspectives on how people regard a world where we are always online, why did you create this documentary?

The original idea was to get in touch with thought leaders, innovators and pioneers in the field of lifelogging to help us get a good idea of what is out there and where there is room for growth. Since we received an enthusiastic response from a lot of these people, we decided that filming the meetings would be a great way to educate everyone about lifelogging.

Memoto started as a Crowdfundingprojekt. Why do you think you managed to pull in as much money in so little time?

The desire to preserve memories is nothing new, but up until now there hasn’t been a good way to do so. Bulky lifelogging cameras, poor battery life and a lack of software to help manage all those photos have made this kind of memory preservation difficult and unsustainable. Memoto is making a lifelogging experience that addresses all these issues, particularly bridging the gap between technological capabilities and managing output as well as drawing meaning from it.

When do you think Memoto will be on the market?

We don’t currently have a hard date but you can follow our progress with our weekly updates here. We will announce the shipping date as soon as possible.
